Transformers on screen
A comparison between Optimus Prime's Generation One and Film incarnations
The Transformers are being created with a mix of close-up props and CGI by Industrial Light and Magic. Heavily stressed in their film incarnations are advanced kinematics and realistic engineering, drawing away from the classic blocky look and avoiding the mass shifting and disappearing insides of previous incarnations. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura admitted they attempted a computer generated version of Optimus Prime's comic book look, but it looked silly.[30] There is also a new eye design, as glimpsed in the teaser poster, to make the characters more emotionally engaging, in contrast to the general glowing blue Autobot and red Decepticon eyes. It is unknown if the color scheme remains.[3] During a transformation, thousands of parts of the body move.[27]
All the characters travel to Earth using their bodies as "protoform" spaceships, before reformatting into Earth forms.[31] All of the Transformers feature standard and battle modes for their heads.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura Talks Tranformers And John Singleton Talks Luke Cage
As you may know by now DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures announced the release date for the live action Transformers, which is slated to be release on July 4-2007. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Steven Spielberg and are the producers of the film with Michael Bay at the helm.
During the press junket for "Four Brothers" this weekend over in New York, producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura talked briefly about the film. In terms of how true the film will be based on the TV Series, “We’re definitely staying true to the (TV Series) Transformers” says Bonaventura. Now John Rogers wrote the original script, but since then the writers of The Island Roberto Orci, and Alex Kurtzman have come aboard. According to Bonaventura he says he will not use the John Rogers script “It will be a completely different script.” As for the story plot details, he wouldn’t comment on it at this point. A lot of fans are worried about how the characters will look in the film and who is in it, Bonaventura simply repiled “Optimus Prime and all the characters will be in there, they wont look…I hope they don’t look the same because I think those characters wont hold up on motion pictures. I think that’s why that animated movie never worked.” Bonaventura continues “Like we took a picture of Optimus Prime and put him out in Central Park and it looked silly, and in doing so we have to make it more real for a broader audience than the original series was.” After the Transformers for Bonaventura is the live action film G.I. Joe, “G.I. Joe is coming momentarily and I have high hopes for it.”
Meanwhile the writers for Four Brothers David Elliot and Paul Lovett will be the writers for G.I. Joe in which they say that all the key characters will be in the film, “All the big key characters that Hasbro really wanted are in there, so Snake Eyes is what everyone is always asking about and Destro. It’s really tough to write for because he doesn’t speak, which we’ll have a twist that we really like.” So far there has been a script submitted. “We've given the second draft and we'll have to see what happens next.”
Bonaventura is currently in production on "Doom," starring The Rock and Karl Urban, and in post-production on "Derailed," starring Clive Owen and Jennifer Aniston.
Also at the press junket for Four Brothers was director John Singleton who also gave us an update on the possible adaptation of Marvel Comics' Luke Cage, Power Man. I told Singleton that we had done a script review for the film and at the time we were the first to mention that Tyrese Gibson was going to play Luke Cage and when I asked him IS Tyrese going to play the lead role his response was “I told him he ain’t getting it unless he works out, I was like ‘you need to work out’ to make sure you get it. Actually my dream team is to do it with Tyrese and Terence Howard will be the villain. Terence to play Dimondback with the snake eyes.” So what’s taking so long for the movie to move forward? Singleton simply replied, “I don’t know what’s happening with the studio. I’m not going to do it unless I do it the way I want to do it.” |
